As speeding is one of the three priorities for the Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), the team
have conducted speed checks in the following villages:
· 11 June - Wendlebury - 29 vehicles drove through the check in 80 minutes and none were
speeding.
· 23 June - Hethe - seven vehicles drove through the check in 50 minutes and none were speeding.
· 23 June – Arncott - 223 vehicles drove through the check in 60 minutes, 11 of which were
speeding and seven of these were from surrounding villages.
We have also been working with the Cherwell District Council anti-social behaviour team addressing
complaints of young people playing football in the street.
In relation to crime, there have been reports of vehicles being stolen from Ambrosden, Upper Heyford
and one from Fritwell which was later recovered on false plates on the M40 in
Buckinghamshire.
A vehicles was been broken into in Mixbury and gardening equipment was stolen, a car was damaged
in Steeple Aston and a person has been arrested and dealt with for this.
There was also a theft of two trailers from a garage near Steeple Aston, a car broken into in
Stoke Lyne Wood’s car park and handbags stolen.
A car lock was tampered with and the windscreen of another vehicle smashed in Finmere and a window
broken on a car in Piddington.
Some lorries in Finmere and Blackthorne were also targeted by thieves, with diesel
being siphoned off.
In Arncott, a petrol saw was stolen in a burglary and cash was stolen during a distraction burglary
at another address in the same village. Cash was also stolen in a burglary in Steeple Aston.
A laptop and camera was stolen in a burglary in Caversfield and a lawnmower from another in Fringford.
There was an attempted burglary at a house in Stoke Lyne but fortunately no entry was
gained.
There have been a number of arson attacks in the area, with two in Bainton, Chesterton, where
the cricket pavilion was severely damaged, four in Launton which included two separate
attacks on stable blocks, one in Lower Heyford and another in Middleton Stoney.
Arrests have been made into the relation to these and investigations are ongoing.
Drugs were seized from houses in Arncott, Chesterton and also from a person in Stoke Lyne Wood’s
car park.
The team also executed a drugs warrant in Fritwell where drugs were seized and an investigation
is ongoing into this.
The NAG met at the beginning of the month and an update was given on the progress of the
engagement consultation and also the current profiles of speeding, road safety and young
people loitering.
We have also conducted drug swabbing in licensed premises across the rural sector with encouraging
results on the whole.
Members of the team have been busy visiting various fetes across the area including ones in Wendlebury,
Launton Church, Finmere School and Stoke Lyne.
We also attended the Blackthorn Village Party, the open gardens weekend in Stratton Audley and
the opening of the hunt kennels in the village.
Officers also went along a meeting for the new children’s rural centre that is in the process
of being set up for the rural communities.
Police Community Support Officers have been working hard with children at Fritwell and Chesterton
Schools and have now completed a week long cycle proficiency course for children.

Souldern, Ardley and Stoke Lyne.
